This largely random thought has come back to me off and on in the past week -- those yellow ribbons everybody bought over the last three years probably do some good for the morale of US soldiers but would it have done more good if the purchasers cared less about the appearance of public support and donated the money spent to the USO or VA instead?

There's an Obama ad running that compares his tax cuts plan to McCain's. I tried finding it on YouTube but haven't had any luck. It's a fairly standard, reasonably factual policy attack -- my tax plan helps you, his helps big business, etc. The ad struck me because it's all white. Somebody gave my favorite vegan, glueandglitter, grief about her diet yesterday. This is a person I hold out as an example of how to eat responsibly as a vegan. Giving somebody crap about their diet is bad behavior on a lot of levels.
